Petit Village Records is currently a four headed beast (the dog is not involved).

It was established in Montreal, QC in 2022.

Petit Village Records (formerly Little Village) was initially founded by Ian MacPherson in 2022. Petit Village released its first 7”, “Hurt By The Words” b/w “So In Need” by Leather Rose on Dec. 16 2022. It’s a release the label is extremely proud of (so be sure to check out the shop).

Leather Rose consisted of Roy Vucino and Hannah Lewis, two musicians, who both Paul and I admired for decades through our college radio show, The Go-Go Radio Magic Show (only on CJLO 1690AM!). Being fans of the duos various projects from RED MASS to Birds Of Paradise, and getting to know Roy and Hannah over the years, helped to open the door for Petit Village to release their debut 7” as Leather Rose. It would be the couples first foray into cosmic country. When Roy and Hannah offered  Petit Village the idea of releasing their debut single, the label was born. That offer was the official “pull of the trigger” and the official paperwork to start the label was done shortly after.

The following May, The Wesleys sent The Go-Go Radio Magic Show their debut EP “Outside Voices” in preparation for an interview on GGRMS to promote their launch show. I was walking down Avenue du Parc in a sunbeam, slightly stoned when the EP introduced itself to me. This was a band I would want to be in and connected the dots to all my favourite sounds. It was in that moment, the pieces star to align, moving into what we now know Petit Village Records to be. After spending significant time with The Wesleys in a basement in St-Henri throughout 2023, witnessing the creation of what would be their debut full length album and Petit Village’s first 12”, the album was released on April 12, 2024.

Following the release of the album William D’Amours and Henry Girard of The Wesleys joined the Petit Village team, as well as Go-Go Radio Magic Show founder Paul “Prince Palu” Brown (although he always answered the call and up to that point, there were a lot of calls).

Although the idea of a label is much different than it was when I fell in love with bands and discovered music as a teenager in the 1990’s. I always envisioned it being a cross between a 1980’s skateboarding team like Bones Brigade, a gang where every member is unique and brings something different to the team…. and indie labels like Flying Nun and IRS Records, who’s eclectic rosters included such a range of sounds, from such different acts. A label should be a lot like a great mixtape. Diverse yet cohesive.

Petit Village Records strives to support the local music scene and it’s community by building relationships with like minded artists and labels in and  outside of Montreal,  through the release and promotion of rad music by artists we love ourselves. Thanks for listening.
